Together we will reimagine our community green space

West Portal Playground serves as a hub of the community. It is the only public playground and green space in the Portola – 19th Avenue corridor. Located at the intersection of the MUNI West Portal station, the commercial and retail district, the public library and West Portal Elementary, the West Portal Playground is a gathering and play space for people of all ages.

A  renovation project in 2005 saw the park’s original clubhouse expanded and upgraded into a sleek, modern community space, perfect for public meetings, parties and a host of recreational programs.  However, West Portal Playground needs a renovation. There are significant safety concerns and maintenance issues. The design is outdated, and much of the equipment is broken or rusted, making it unsafe for our children.

Our Mission

West Portal is a well-used and loved playground. A space where people of all ages can gather and play, and a space that we are working to reimagine, redesign and renovate.

We are a team of interested residents intent on building a new West Portal Playground in conjunction with San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. From all walks of life and all backgrounds, we are working together to renovate our community hub. We hope you’ll join us!
